The Top Five...
Reasons Bulk Bag Discharging Operations Fail
- Safety: Do your operators reach under suspended bulk bags? Are they required to stick their hands or arms between the bag and moving parts of the discharging equipment? Do they have an awkward reach to untie the bag outlet spout? Unsafe equipment and procedures present a huge liability and lead to unmotivated and unproductive operators.
- Dusting: Is your bulk bag discharging area a mess? Do your operators dislike discharging bags because they can’t stand the dust emissions? Do they have to wear dust masks when unloading bulk bags? If so, you are drastically reducing your productivity and potentially exposing your employees to a serious health hazard.
- Poor Flow: Do your operators have to manually manipulate bulk bags to induce ingredient flow (i.e. hit it with a stick!)? Do you have to baby sit your bulk bag discharger to make sure product flows constantly? Having to ‘help’ the equipment empty a bag is a tremendous drag on efficiency and productivity. Plus, it can result in unsafe operating procedures.
- Poor Yield: Do you have an unacceptably large amount of product left in the bag after it has supposedly been emptied? Do your operators have to manually shake out the bag to properly empty them? Profitability can plummet if your yield is not optimized.
- Weak Equipment: Does your bulk bag discharging equipment require frequent maintenance? Do some of the moving parts no longer work and you’ve given up fixing them? Is equipment failure causing poor flow, yield and/or dusting? Bulk bag discharging equipment that can’t operate optimally over the long haul can lead to any or all of the above critical problems.
